It's Spring...And We're Raining Ice!

|
Yesterday late afternoon at 4pm, I was cutting up meat to cook for dinner, and all of a sudden, I heard pop!pop!pop!, like as if rocks falling from the sky. The sound was so loud that it startled me and I quickly looked up at my kitchen skylight. My kitchen was bright because it was sunny outside. Would you believe, that pop!pop!pop! was ice pellets hitting my skylight. Out of nowhere, we had hail and the sun was out. My kids were startled by the loud sound too and they came running into the kitchen. I opened my front door to have a better look of the hail and boy, it sure was weird looking at the hail on a bright sunny day. See those white specks on my rug and floor? They're ice pellets:

My eldest daughter was quick to guess that our backyard would have a lot of ice and she ran to look out my bedroom window. I did a color swap on my camera to highlight where the ice was. All the white dots in the picture were ice.

Many people don't take global warming seriously and of course, there are those who think that global warming is a hoax created by scientists and the world government. I need not think any further when all I have to do is think about the weird weather that we've been having in the beginning of 2010. The world climate is changing for sure. How on earth is someone going to tell me that it is perfectly normal to rain ice when it is sunny with blue sky? In the spring time too? And look at the earthquakes that we recently had. The Chile 8.8 mega-earthquake was so strong that scientists said it shifted the earth's axis by 3 inches and shortened our day by a millimeter of a second which means that the earth is spinning faster every trip around the sun. I know we can't worry too much and take things as they come. This makes me wonder...you know, maybe San Francisco and the tropical countries will get snow one day. If our earth's axis keep shifting (the 2004 tsunami shifted the axis tremendously) and the earth is spinning faster, you may never know, right?

yeah, the hail came all of a sudden. It was crazy. We had a bunch of ice in our porch and garden. It's been one weird weather system after another.

I experienced hail one time when I was in Australia (a student then).

I hope the icy rain goes away and you get lovely spring weather! :)

I wish we have spring here. Would be so lovely seeing pretty flowers blooming everywhere.

Whew, we are really having strange weather. And I agree about global warming.
Today we have strong wind gust, and boy, was it cold!

Hoping to get warmer this weekend!

I agree with you that many people are not serious about global warming. In our country, the weather is expected to be hotter and hotter in the future. It's really scary. BTW, I've got an award for you.Check it out at my blog.

@Nezzy - Yes, it sure does and it's one of those moments that I can recount and tell people about too.

@KN - I heard it hailed as far as Santa Clara county too. Super weird weather!

@Mei - It's very unusual for us to get hail because our weather don't dip cold enough to hail. I wish we have nice spring weather too!

Unusual weather. I experienced hail once. They sure create a lot of noise.

Have a good day!

@Ebie - It's been unusually cold lately. I have to turn my house heater on a couple of times everyday. Hope it will get warmer soon.

@TK - That's bad especially Asian countries in East Pacific already have hot weather. Hot over your side and cold over mine. Wonder what will be next...

@Mr. Stupid - In the past we never get hail but now, it's like our part of the world is getting colder. We've gotten hail twice already.

@Astra Libis - The weather has been really weird lately. Can't wait to see what next month brings.

Wow! I was amazed that you would have hail in California, especially with the sun out! I too agree with you about the global warming, this winter has been very unusual. I remember as a child we had hail that was big as marbles and it can break windshields.

@Cheryl - I'm surprised that we have hail too. Fortunately, they're not huge like marbles!
