Nice El Nino

|
I was awoken at 3 A.M. by a lightning storm which is very unusual because we rarely, very rarely have lightning in San Francisco. Aside from the bright flashes and rumbling thunders, my backyard sounded like pebbles dropping out from the sky with gusty wind smashing them everywhere. It was so terrifying. Actually it was hail that was coming down. When I last checked, we had at least 93 lightning strikes within the last 24-hour. It's forecasted that we will have five storm fronts this week which is fueled by the effects of El Nino. Ahhh El Nino. Today was the second storm. Wednesday's storm is predicted to be more powerful than today. Geez, just can't wait :(

The crazy thing about the weather since Monday is the repetitive darkening and brightening of the sky, follow by clear blue sky with beaming sunshine then everything goes dark and the thunderstorm comes right away. I mean, pounding rain with thunders for 10 minutes and then the sky brightens again. My house went so dark at 2PM today that I had to turn on the lights and then at 4PM, it was bright and sunny. I snapped a picture of a sunny and raining moment today at 4:02PM:

This picture was taken with my phone camera which captured the sun position nicely...

This time, I used a real camera...

Here comes the dark clouds at 4:13PM. No rain this time...

At 5:10PM, our beautiful sunset and still no rain but look at the accumulating dark clouds for tonight's thunder show...

Hmm... reminds me of the scientist who invented a device to control the weather during the 1950s. After the government heard of his research, they took it from him, burned all his books, and locked him up in prison. His name is Wilhelm Reich. No one knew what happened to his research after it went into the hands of the government, but I suspect that sudden weather changes like this could be the result of either global warming or government testing. hehe

The world weather patterns have gone all whacky. It'd be nice of Malaysia had snow once a while, but I think I'd not wish for it coz it'll juz freak us out!

Thunderstorm..... best time to stay indoors with a nice hot cuppa and a good tv programme or a good read. ^_^

It's scary to drive across the GG Bridge in this kind of weather. The bridge sways back and forth. I don't remember El Nino last year, was a dry year last year and bam 2010, all this rain.

Hi Rose, I was in deep sleep that I did not hear anything. But this morning's news shocked when 2 planes in Burbank airport were hit by lightning. I have to wait for the news tonight.

Take care!

Its always best to stay indoors and look through your window. But its good not to stare at the sky. Lightning can be harmful to eyes. Anyways, great pics there! I just love rain. Thunderstorm should be an exception...:)
Have a good day!

@Ryhen - How interesting, I've never heard about this guy or his work but again, the government did the best to destroy his research. I heard a while back that some countries are investing in research to (surprise, surprise) control the weather. See how humans just like to control everthing?

@Gratitude - It'd be too freaky if Malaysia or some of the tropical countries have snow. But you never know...crazy things are happening now.

@KN - Oh how scary it must be to drive on GG Bridge when it sways. It's been storming so bad for this week.

@Ebie - I heard only one airplane. How scary is that!

@Mr. Stupid - I would never attempt to look at lightning...too scared I might hit by it.

@Mei - I heard that southeast Asian countries have frequent thunderstorms but in SF, we have fogs, thunderstorms not so common.

I'm afraid of lightning storms. Always have that fear that it will strike through my windows and hit me. It must be nerve wrecking to going through the storm and geez, that many lightning within 24 hours? That's crazy!!!!

You certainly are experiencing very unusual weather. I can't imagine all that lightening! I think I will stick with the snowfall, its very quiet!
