If Money Was No Object...

|

I read on the news yesterday that now, for $18,000 USD, you can choose the gender of your baby. With science and technology advancing quite rapidly from ideas to reality, I don't think it would be long before we have the capability to create our own ideal children. Think of it as this: we are moving closer to being able to choose the eye color, hair color, height, skin tone, and gender of an unborn child. The original medical idea behind this is to eliminate hereditary defective genes, genes that cause diseases such as breast cancer and Tay-Sachs.

If money was no object to you, would you tamper with nature and choose the gender of your baby?

eliminating the defective genes sounds ideal, but i won't tamper with the gender of my baby. i believe it is god's will, why plan for everything while the unknown can be more interesting? ;)

If I, say, already have 4 daughters and I desparately want a son, then I would pay for it.

I wouldn't no matter what. You simply don't know what you put yourself into when you start messing with nature.

A tough call, since we love improvements but yet humankind goes overboard in the process and goes on a destructive mode on mother nature.

As technology improves, so would we. We cannot be going around rejecting things so we'll just have to embrace the positive improvements. But I think China's one-child policy would result in more male births, if science allows for gender determination.

Have a great weekend ya! ^_^

Awesome news Rose. Just what I needed to start my day. Have you seen the videos about the lights in Norway? I just thought it's also worth mentioning even though it has nothing to do with genetics. hehe. Anyway, if money was no object to me, I think I would have the liberty of impregnating my wife as many times as I want so that I can hit the gender I'm aiming for. That is, if she doesn't mind, of course.

Not sure what is the success rate of that. Not really nature as I think. Wouldn't spend this type of money. As long as it is my own baby, boy or girl is nice!

Nope, I wouldn't do it.

I just love the natural way but I hope ppl will make use of scientific advance appropriately. Did u watch the movie "The Island", it explains all in my mind.

there is a % on this result no? besides, does it matter? :S all gender of the kids, it is still our flesh and blood.

@Levian - My thinking is the same. It's the mystery of the baby's gender that makes it interesting.

@Jaiden - The news article did mention that China and India are two countries that favor boys over girls so it is predicted that Chinese and Indian men would be more willing to pay for these services.

@Banana - Agree here with you

@Willie - I wouldn't want to mess with nature either

@KN - I think that's the scariest part too, not knowing for sure what's going to happen when we do things unnaturally

@Gratitude - Actually the article mentioned both China and India imbalance of female to male ratio and how this will tip the scale even more if people start to select the gender of their babies.

@Ryhen - Yes, I've followed on the strange light in Norway but they supposedly found the source of the spiral light. From Russia failed rocket experiments. I kinda don't believe that but oh well...

@Superman - If I remember correctly, the success rate is very high. The technology is there but not every country allows this..yet

@Mei Teng - I agree, money can not buy everything

@Cheryl - thanks for commenting

@Dora - No, I've never watched "Island". I'll google on this movie and check it out. Thanks!

@Ladyviral - You are right, boy or girl, it's still your own flesh and blood. As long as the baby is healthy, that should be the most important thing.

I don't think we should play God. But then again, for people who have all daughters and want a son, or vice versa, this may be a good option : )
