Now onto the other part of the reason, my girls' deadly hands. The first aquarium that we got, my eldest daughter, who was a toddler then, would always pull a chair and dip her hands in the water to try to grab the goldfishes. They all died prematurely. The second set of fishes we bought also met their demise. My dad had two mini turtles. The ones that are about a little bigger than an inch. My girls decided to take them out from the tank and play with them. One got lost and we never found it. They were not allow to get near the turtle tank again. My brother's pet hamster died after my 8 year-old spun it in circles after it had finished eating. The hamster choked on the food it stored in the side pouches of its cheeks.
Both girls asked for a pet dog this year for Christmas and I said no. Then they asked if they could get a hamster, and the answer was again a no. In October, while Halloween costume shopping, my girls asked if I could buy them Zhu Zhu hamster pets. The answer was another no. My eldest daughter said Zhu Zhus are toy hamsters and later that day, she googled and showed me how they looked like. I told them I was going to think about it. Coincidentally, my brother told me he planned on getting his nieces Zhu Zhu hamster pets for Christmas. He said he was going to buy them early because Zhu Zhus would be hard to buy in December. Well, he bought four Zhu Zhus, two for each girl, in October and gave them to my girls.
My girls were absolutely ecstatic when they saw their Zhu Zhus. These hamsters make squeaky sound and move on four wheels. Probably 10 minutes into playing with their Zhu Zhus, one of the hamsters got lost. We searched around the living room and found it under a chair. I told my girls to keep an eye on their hamsters. They lost their hamster around the house a couple of times in a single day. The girls played with their Zhu Zhus probably for another day and lost interest in them. What a waste of money! My second daughter gave me her two Zhu Zhus and showed me the dust and hair that got caught in their wheels. My brother doesn't have kids yet and he's a softie to his nieces. Whatever they want, they get from him. I told him being a parent sometimes mean saying no and making unpopular decisions. He just shrugged. I requested from him for all future purchases for his nieces, get educational stuff like books or learning CDs. His reply was a "yeah, yeah".

Sound slike your girls would not be looking after the dog if you agreed to get them one.
Maybe you can use this Zhu Zhu Hamsters to teach them responsibility on a real pet.
Tell them that they need to keep this hamsters clean, not to lose them... look after it, play with it... else the chances of them getting a real pet would be a no way.
Those zhu zhus are popular this year; on commercials a lot lately too. My kids want them too but from what you experienced, I don't think I will be getting them.
Heheh...better not to have pets then.
LOL!! I think it would be in the best interest of the dogs if they're a bit older to own them.
@ladyviral - Oh, I talked to my girls about this. If they can't even take care of their toy hamsters, how can I trust them with a live animal? They're trying alright.
@Jane - Better not to get them zhu zhu. You'll be glad you didn't
@Willie - I know...
@KN - For the sake of any living things, I agree with you.
Kids are hard to train to take good care of pets. better wait and let them have real pets when they really mean it and will take good care of the pets. Maybe another few years then they will not be so playful and will take good care of pets.
Lovely innovative designs
Those animals probably had to clear their karmic debt to your daughters lolz!
If you dun mind dogs, get a larger kind eg. cocker spaniel or labrador. They make wonderful loving pets and wld certainly liven and protect your home. With minimal training, they'll know how and where to poop so as to minimize your maintenance. Your gals cld be taught to be responsible towards taking care of the dog when they are older too. :)
I wish you all the best. :)
Have a charming week ahead! ^_^

@Superman - that's my plan, wait til they're a bit older and have proven themselves responsible.
@Dorothy - thanks!
@Gratitude - You know, my mom said the same too about the karmic debt. I didn't know larger dogs are easier. Had always thought they were the more dirty and troublesome ones. Thanks for the advice!
It looks like Zhu Zhu pets and Twilight will be dominating the toy market this year
I've heard that these Zhu Zhus are a huge request for Christmas this year. I read in our local paper that people are paying big $$$ to find them! My children have had bunnies (which they were very good with)many goldfish (which I always got stuck cleaning the tank out)two parakeets, cats and now we have a dog. However we didn't get the dog until they were all grown up!
It is indeed good to have pets around to accompany us. But like you said, having pets is also taking up responsibility. You made the right decision there my friend.
@Samantha - Twilight is definitely a big hit this holiday season. I bought my girls' zhu zhus for $20. They're being sold on Amazon for $40 right now.
@Cheryl - I used to have two bunnies as pets when I was a kid. The landlord made us give them up.
@Saints - Pets are big responsibilities. My girls are not ready to take care of any animals just yet.
zhu zhu hamster pets... haha... what a name. I guess that's just the way it is with children. They get interested in something, play with it for a brief period of time, then they end the relationship saying, "It's not you, it's me."
@Ryhen - Yeah, when I first heard of the name, I asked how it was spelled. Probably named after the inventor or so.
thanks for the follow. i am following you back too!
