19-Pound Baby Born

I was skimming through a gallery of amazing pictures yesterday and came across this picture, looked at it for a moment and then read the picture description. You really have to see the comparison of a 19 pounder to an average 7-8 pounder to fully grasp how big this baby is. The baby boy was born via caesarean on Monday in Indonesia. A gynaecologist who helped with the surgery said the procedure was "really tough, especially the process of taking him out of his mum's womb. His legs were so big".

19-lb is enormous but according to The Guinness Book of World Records, the world's heaviest birth weight was 23-lb in 1879 who died 11 hours after birth.

I have three kids and their birth weight was in the 7-lb range. I gained a total of 30 pounds during all three pregnancies. Carrying a 7-lb baby did a number to my back. I had backaches frequently during the last two months of pregnancy especially sleeping at night. I can not imagine what the mother of this baby went through and she carried full term by the way. I'm glad the baby is fine and healthy.
